Trick or Treat

I’m not going to have you smell my feet because they might smell too bad and realistically we are too far apart from each other to do that. Happy Halloween to all! On this week’s show of Q's Tips it was all about Halloween. If you are looking for the perfect Halloween playlist you can find it just in time for the big night. It’s been two weeks since my last show which means we played 2 rugby games.  As I mentioned on last week’s blog, we played against Holy Cross and won 27-19 on October 20. This past weekend we played against Stonehill College and unfortunately lost, but it’s okay because we still made it to National Playoffs on November 9.

On to the tips:
  • Looking to get more candy fast? Use rollerblades to get from house to house faster and make sure to add that you are “one the run” for comedic effect.
  • Only take one piece of candy from a bowl left out that asks you to only take one. Honesty is the best policy.
  • Use a pillow case instead of a bag to hold more candy.
  • If you decide to eat candy while trick or treating, make sure to properly dispose of your wrappers instead of throwing them on the ground.
  • Make your costume easy to recognize or you’ll get sick of explaining who or what you are.
  • Use a play on words for your costume – last year I was a fork in the road.
  • Match your Halloween costume with your friends. It’s more fun to be in a group with the same or some type of matching costumes.
  • Make your own costume to save money and to have fun making one.
  • Go around campus and knock on people’s doors in the dorm building – students often are friendly and get a lot of candy from their parents.
  • Don’t forget to say trick or treat at each house because if you don’t you’re lame.

The instructions are right there, follow them and be nice

I made my Quail Man costume for under $5. I call that a bargain.

So many dorm rooms, so little time.

I have been very excited to play this wonderful playlist of music for a long time. Not because I like Halloween music, but only because I was able to find songs I know well. It is unfortunate that my radio show and Halloween don’t fall on the same day or it would have been too perfect. Now you can use all of these tips and songs to make your Halloween extra special.

Along with playing the Halloween playlist and the tips, I also read a wonderful Halloween children’s book Today Is Halloween by P.K. Hallinan. Special thanks to Professor Bang-Jensen for providing the book from her collection. If you are looking for a fun activity for Halloween you, should check out making one of these creative Halloween foods. They all look very interesting to make and eat on a wonderful Halloween night.

Now that you heard the story you can check out the book for the pictures.

One last thing:
This weekend is the last "official game" of the rugby season. We will be playing at St. Anslem’s at 1pm on Saturday November 2. Come support your favorite team as we take on the Hawks. Our season will continue on November 9 as our journey to Nationals begins with playoffs hosted at home.

Bye Week

Well hey there friends. This week, as mentioned before, was the October break and we had off on Monday and Tuesday for our post-Columbus Day weekend. As a result, I did not go into the station to have another great show of Q’s Tips. I apologize for all those who waited to hear another great week of tunes and tips.

In other news: the WWPV station has moved from St. Edmund's Hall to the Dion Family Student Center (aka the Quad Commons Student Center) in the middle of campus. Now you’ll be able to see DJ Q in a glass fish bowl of a station.  Make sure to stop by during Q’s Tips on Tuesdays from 12pm-2pm to see me live in action in the studio. Next week is up in the air to see if all the radio equipment will make it over in time for my show, so be on the lookout for if it’s up and running by then. If it is running, it will be the spooky Halloween show.

The new studio, I feel like I'm a fish in a fish bowl.
Get ready for next week's Halloween show.

Tip of the week:

  • If you’re looking for a way to get out your aggression, PLAY RUGBY!

Just one tip this since there wasn’t a show. Rugby is a great sport to work on teamwork,  improve your physical fitness, and relieve stress and aggression. Try watching a game or even playing it yourself. It’s a wonderful sport to play.

This tip is a great way to lead into my last thing of the week:
We played the College of the Holy Cross Crusaders this past Sunday and won 27-19, bringing our record to an astounding 6-0! This next weekend we are back on the St. Michael’s pitch taking on the Stonehill College Skyhawks, another 6-0 team. If you were waiting for the best game of the season, this is it. Come support your favorite undefeated team as we look to go 7-0.

The game is at 10am on Saturday, October 26 on the St Michael’s Rugby Pitch.

Line outs can be used in real life situations, for example apple picking.
